The  Cavtatportal  is a portal to the town of Cavtat, Croatia and the region. Movies, photos, texts, and columns. Croatia first appeared as a duchy in the 7th century and then as a kingdom in the 10th century. From the 12th century it remained a distinct state with its ruler (ban) and parliament, but it obeyed the kings and emperors of various neighboring powers, primarily Hungary and Austria. The period from the 15th to the 17th centuries was marked by bitter struggles with the Ottoman Empire. After being incorporated in Yugoslavia for most of the 20th century, Croatia regained independence in 1991. Has been a parliamentary democracy ever since. Croatia extends from the furthest eastern edges of the Alps in the NW to the Pannonian lowlands and the banks of the Danube in the E; its central region is covered by the Dinara mountain range, and its southern parts extend to the coast of the Adriatic Sea. The mainland covers 56 594 square kilometers; territorial waters 31 067 km sq. About 4.5 million inhabitants; majority are Croats; national minorities include Serbs, Slovenes, Hungarians, Bosnians, Italians, Czechs and others. Croatia has three climate zones; the prevailing one in the country's interior is moderately rainy; on the highest peaks, a forest climate with snow falls, while the areas along the Adriatic coast have a pleasantly mild Meditarrenean climate with a large number of sunny days; summers are dry and hot, winters mild and wet with significant precipitations. Aim for popular local dishes and specialties. Each region has its own. Coastal Dalmatia, for instance, you'll find mosty fish and seafood dishes, while in the continental parts you'll find a variety of meat dishes. Of course, you can always opt for the standard European cuisine. Croatia has a long grape growing tradition. Try tasty reds and whites as well as variety of 'rakija' (spirits) that best suite your taste.

Thassos, the island, is a real treasure for the country of Greece. Unlike the rest of the Greek islands, Thassos has much more to offer than just beautiful beaches and water. It truly retains all the Greek culture and tradition that has generally been lost on most of the Greek Islands, as they have become tourist centers that now cater to the many tourists of multi nationalities. It also has a rich history and archeological sites scattered through out the island. You can combine amusement with archaeological interests. Welcome to  Thassos World Wide Web Directory ! Thassos island Travel Directory of Greece and the World. Holidays, Hotels, Beaches in Aegean Greek islands. Provided by Thassos island, Limenaria, Greece. On the island, one can still see monuments remaining since its glorious days from the past, such as the walls of the fortress of the ancient city, the temple of Pythian Apollo and the sanctuary of Dionysus with its choragic monument. An important reason for choosing this island for your holidays is the fact that it is one of only a few island that lies close enough to mainland Greece to allow you to take excursions to many other archeological sites and beautiful cities that are spread throughout Northern Greece (Macedonia). The city of Kavala (on the mainland) was a colony of the Thasians. Thassos is the most remote northern island of the Thracian Sea, lying in a 7 to 8-mile distance opposite the coastline of Eastern Macedonia, very close to the Keramoti Bay and the estuary of the Nestos River. Its surface is as large as 393 km and has a population near 15,000 people. It is one of the municipalities of the Prefecture of Kavala, and is comprised of 9 communities. Water does not have to be brought to the island like the other Greek Islands and there are no water usage restrictions either. The island also has it's own supply of good drinking water. It is rumored that drinking the water from the fountain in Panagia or Kastro (traditional mountain villages) will cause you not to want to leave this beautiful island. Perhaps that is why so many from northern europe have started calling this small island their home.

Las Vegas is the most populous city in Nevada and an internationally renowned major resort city for gambling, shopping and fine dining. Las Vegas, which bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, is famous for the number of casino resorts and associated entertainment. Visit Las Vegas InfoCenter for your  Las Vegas travel  guide. Find links to local business, weddings, event planning and convention services in the Las Vegas area. The Las Vegas InfoCenter is a guide for visitors and locals. Established in 1905, Las Vegas officially became a city in 1911. The city's tolerance for various forms of adult entertainment earned it the title of Sin City, and this image has made Las Vegas a popular setting for films and television programs. The name Las Vegas is often applied to unincorporated areas that surround the city, especially the resort areas on and near the Las Vegas Strip. The 4.2 mi stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard known as the Strip is mainly in the unincorporated communities of Paradise and Winchester, while a small portion overlaps into Las Vegas and the unincorporated community of Enterprise. The major attractions in Las Vegas are the casinos and the hotels. The most famous hotel casinos are located on Las Vegas Boulevard on the portion of that road known as the Las Vegas Strip. These larger casinos are located outside of the city. Many of these hotels are massive, providing thousands of rooms, with their large adjoining casino areas. There are many hotel casinos in the city's downtown area as well, which was the focal point of the city's gaming industry in its early days. Several large hotels and casinos are also located somewhat off the Strip, as well as in the county around the city. Some of the most notable casinos involved in downtown gaming are on the Fremont Street Experience which was granted variances to allow bars to be closer together, similar to the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego.
